Spanish network dedicated to study emergent crops towards diversifying our agricultural and food systems by introducing species of high nutritional value
NutriCrop is a national research network made up of 14 research groups belonging to the public sector in collaboration with private companies working on emerging crops from different scientific fields related to:
Agronomy
including different scientific areas such as genetic improvement, plant physiology or biotechnology.
Food science and technology
including different scientific areas that include the nutritional and functional enhancement of crops, as well as their revaluation through the development of new functional and healthy foods and ingredients, as well as transformation and post-harvest studies.
Immunonutrition
and its implications for human nutrition and health.
The main objective of this Network is the coordination and promotion of research into emerging crops, integrating groups from agricultural, food and health disciplines to promote their cultivation and use in highly healthy foods in Spain.
Specific objectives:
- Create synergies and strengthen collaboration between researchers in the Network.
- Encourage the exchange of knowledge and results.
- Promote the connection between the scientific community and the productive sector.
- Disseminate research results to associations and society.
Areas of study:
- Impact of environmental conditions (water stress, salinity, etc.) on the quality of these crops.
- Influence of genetic and environmental factors on nutritional quality.
- Genetic improvements to increase performance and adaptability.
- Development of innovative and functional foods.
- Analysis of the immunoendocrine response to new ingredients bioactive.
This Network promotes diversified, viable agriculture with health benefits, adapted to the current climate context.
